Grass pollen season: when to start ILIT

Three doses four weeks apart means a course takes two months. Counting back from your worst weeks.

Three doses four weeks apart means a course takes two months from the first injection, plus the consultation and any testing before it. If grass is your problem, count back from May.

Counting back

Grass pollen peaks from late May through June across most of the country. To finish the course before it starts, the first injection needs to be in by early March, which puts the consultation in January or February. Tree pollen runs earlier, ragweed later; your allergist will know the local calendar.

If you are already in season

Some practices treat during the season and some prefer to wait. Either way the benefit builds over the months after the last dose, so a course started late still has next year in view.
